Anyway, lots of my friends started registering for The Color Vibe, the really good thing about this run was that it was being held at Basin Harbor which is about 20 minutes from my house.
As I was getting last minute confirmation stuff you should know information, it seemed like there was going to be a lot of people doing this run. Also it was all over facebook that people I knew were doing this run.
I talked to Becky the night before and we decided to meet up early. I'm usually a last minute, slide into line kind of girl, but I just had a feeling that this was going to be a big deal. I also read that they would be letting people go in waves of 500. There weren't waves of 500, maybe waves of 100. I didn't want to wait around to get into a wave, you know the reason I get to runs just before they start, I don't like waiting.
As I picked up Becky I noticed how traffic was backed up and everyone was heading out to Basin Harbor. It's a beautiful resort, out of the way with just one way in (unless you know the back way). We took the back way in and I just pulled off the road into the parking lot, where I could get out easy. They were not really directing traffic into parking spots and I had no problem.
When we got there, there were lots of people around and music playing loudly. I was glad we got there early. I suggested we hang out near the start, so we could be in the first wave. We hung out near the start line and ran into a few friends, but no one from the team we had signed up with. I left my phone in the car as I didn't want it to get all color, so I had no way to be in contact with anyone.
As people started getting in line, we jumped in the chute and were ready to go. We started off running but soon began walking (stupid lungs). We walked a lot of the 5k, but ran some too. We ran through all the color stations, and we started and finished running. When we were done, they were still letting waves go. We looked around for our friends, realized that they were selling bananas no freebies and headed back to the car. I got my phone, got messages from my friends who I never saw and had someone take our picture. We cleaned up to get into the car and headed out. As we were leaving it was about an hour after the first wave went out and they were still letting waves go. So glad I wasn't waiting an hour.
Traffic was backed up again to get back on the main road, so again I took a back road detour and soon was headed home to shower and warm up.
