Chemo #3

On Wednesday, I had my 3rd chemo session.  It's pretty routine, I leave school as soon as the kids leave and head to Middlebury.  It was sunny and seemed warm, and for a minute ok maybe 10 minutes, I wished that I could run.  I didn't get the run in this past week, busy days, chemo and stupid fluid filling lungs made it not happen.  I do have high hopes for this week though.  Keep me accountable.  So I got there, my ever finicky port gave a little trouble, but once I laid down, they were able to get blood return.  I started up on my premeds.  Once I chatted with Dr. Unger I headed to the chemo room.  There was just one other patient there, she's been there the last three weeks, we chat a little and then Becky shows up.  We chat about cupcakes and the upcoming storm that is suppose to hit on Friday (yesterday).  A little bit later my mom comes in, and chats with us, Becky leave to go to kettlebell class (I want to go!) and soon I am finishing up and we are leaving.  It takes about 2 hours and the time seems to pass pretty quickly especially when I have visitors :)
self photo, that is the port in my chest where the chemo goes in
and blood is suppose to come out for blood tests :)

My side effects are still minimal.  My hair hasn't started to thin yet, (I don't think). I talked to the other patient in there and she is 2 treatments ahead of me on #5 and she said hers is starting to thin.  I couldn't tell, it's not falling out in clumps like it did the first time.
I'm tired after, I go home eat dinner (Travey cooked) and prepare to fall asleep on the couch.  I go right to sleep but am WIDE awake about 5 am.  On Thursday I laid in bed until about 5:30 and then got up and started getting ready for work reading blogs, and checking facebook.  It's probably a combination of the steroids they give me to avoid allergic reactions and the fact that I am sleeping by 8 pm. Hmmm
Food still tastes funny, kind of a metallic taste and just different.  Not to worry, ice cream still tastes good!!

  2. Hope you're running soon. Nice of your mom and Becky to come sit with you. Hoping that fluid stays away for good. We didn't get much snow at all.
