Chemo #2

On Wednesday I had my second chemo.  On Monday (the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day) the one good thing is that they were able to get blood return from my port.  There were sure it was in the right spot, but a port should be able to get blood return.  So, I worked until 2:30 and scooted out and headed to chemo for 3:00.  When I left work it was 50 degrees and the sun was out, on my 20 minute drive it started down pouring, when I got to chemo it stopped.  I went in, checked in.  I've been to the office no less than 8 times this month and talk to them several times a week so I feel like it's almost my second home.  I was going to check in with Dr. Unger first so they take my temp, blood pressure etc.. Suzy asks me if I'm going in "that" room (to get weighed), "No thank you" I reply.  I love that I can and do decline it.  Wendy came in to access my port, she found the spot where the needle goes in, and pushed it in "I got blood" she said, "I forgot to numb it, sorry but I got blood".  Usually she puts some freezing stuff on it so I can't feel it, I had already put lidocane on it so it wasn't too bad.  I got started on my premeds and chatted with Dr. Unger.  He asked me if I had been running again, I said I hadn't but I thought I was going to next week.  He turned into running coach and reminded me that I wouldn't be where I was in December and that I needed to start slow.  I told him I would.  I headed for the chemo chairs, dragging my IV with me.  I chatted with the two ladies in there, one is a teacher who works in the same school district that I do and we found there were other connections as well.  It's just that way in a small town.
My friend Helena stopped in to visit, and then Becky came.  It was great to have friends there.  It was both of their first times seeing a chemo treatment.  After Becky left, my SIL Beth and Quinn came to drop mom off.  Quinn came in to give me a bear that he made at school and chatted with me for a few minutes.  Mom came in, Helena left to pick up her kiddos and I was almost done.  Mom and I were there for about 10 more minutes.  It seemed like the fastest chemo ever, it was totally doable.  Mom drove me home, Dad picked her up and I spent the evening eating yummy dinner that Helena made and watching The Biggest Loser.  I was sleepy and went to bed early.
I haven't had any side effects, except food, drink etc.. doesn't taste as good as it should.  Maybe I'll eat less and lose some weight??  My cold is getting better, I'm still coughing a little, but NOTHING compared to last week.  I'm not feeling sick, and haven't had any neuropathy (one of the side effects that I had last time) yet.  I'm breathing better, it seems like the fluid may be slowing down.  After next week's treatment, I have a week off from chemo!
