Chemo #1

So yesterday was chemo #1, (of 9 hopefully).  To start this post I need to rewind to Monday.  Monday was crazy. I had the day off so therefore planned 100 things I needed to do.  I got my lung drained 1.5 liters of fluid gone.  I got my hair cut post here, and then went in to get my blood test to make sure all the numbers were good for chemo on Wednesday.  When my fantastic nurse Wendy tried to access my port, no blood would come out, seriously none for 45 minutes.  It's funny (because I have terrible veins, one of many reasons to have a port) but not funny because it should have worked.  So she took the blood from my veins in my hand and I went on with my busy day.
Tuesday she calls me to tell me I need to go to Burlington before chemo to get the port checked before they can put chemo in to make sure it's all in place, so I have to take the whole day off from work instead of just the last hour and go get the port checked.  I have the same nurses who helped take off the fluid on Monday, they are awesome too.  The port is in the right place, fluid can go in, still no blood will come out.   What's up body, why are you being difficult?  Haven't you done enough to me this year??
So I drove back to Middlebury to get my chemo.  First of all, I decline the weigh in (every.single.time), I told Wendy I weighed myself this morning and had lost 10 lbs since New Years Eve, and have ran 0 miles......hmmm
Then I settle into the chair, there is one other women in there getting chemo, she's rather chatty.  I get my premeds, something, then a steroid, then benedryl to stop any allergic reaction.  The benedryl makes me sleepy, then I get my Zometa, the bone strengthener that I get every 6 weeks and then the chemo, the taxol.  I was there for about 2.5 hours, I read my book, did some  texting, checked instagram (christaql if you'd like to follow), twitter (christa0329), etc..
My SIL Beth dropped my mom off so she could drive me home and my dad picked her up at my house.  Beth and Quinn came in for a minute as I had brought my cookie for him from my quick lunch at Panera.  Quinn was super cute as always.  Mom drove me home, with only a few reminders of how to drive standard, like where reverse is and that the car has 6 gears.  She helped me make my bed as I had washed and dried my sheets before I left for my appointments.  Travey was gone over night for work so I ate leftovers, had ice cream, watched the Biggest Loser from the DVR and went to bed, only to wake up late because the power was out..

  3. Okay I had not gotten the Stuart Little thing! Duh. Although when I mentioned Christa Little once to my husband he had no idea until I said Christa Quenneville. No insult to Travis, just what I often say. Love the name now that I get it. Naming pets is tricky. Here's hoping the chemo treats you well and doesn't cause you to ache in your joints or anything else. And do what you need to do chemo!!!
